Crystal Palace have been quoted €15million for Anderlecht captain Leander Dendoncker.
If Crystal Palace are serious about bringing Leander Dendoncker to the club this summer, they may be best served in acting sooner rather than later.
Roy Hodgson’s side saw their initial efforts to sign the 23-year-old Anderlecht midfielder knocked back during the January transfer window, as reported by Belgian publication HLN, who report the club’s interest hasn’t waned. Their report in April claimed a new offer from south east London was expected, with Anderlecht then said to be demanding a fee of €15million.
Prices in football are subject to change however and in a World Cup year, one month can be a perilous wait.
On Monday afternoon, Dendoncker was named in Roberto Martinez’s provisional 28-man squad for this summer’s World Cup; a group that didn’t include powerhouse Radja Nainggolan. The omission of the AS Roma midfielder has been met with widespread derision, particularly as manager Roberto Martinez still managed to find room for Adnan Januzaj and Dedryck Boyata.
While it won’t be a popular choice, Nainggolan’s absence could provide Dendoncker with starting opportunities in Russia next month – should he make the final 23-man squad that is set to be announced on 4 June.
With Anderlecht’s current asking price for their club captain a relative bargain, Palace should be eager to tie up this deal before it changes.
