Earlier today, it was said that Tottenham have agreed a £25m deal to sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton, which should worry Crystal Palace fans.
What’s the story?
Well, you may be wondering why the south Londoners should be concerned by this.
Initially, you might think the Crystal Palace supporters would enjoy seeing their rivals suffer such a significant loss.
Bissouma is arguably Brighton’s best player, and to lose him for just £25m is not exactly ideal for Graham Potter.
However, that money could now be used to hijack a deal Crystal Palace are working on.
It has been said that the Eagles are trying to sign RC Lens maestro Cheick Doucoure, and have already submitted a £15m bid – they have also agreed personal terms with the Mali international, although RC Lens want €25m (£22m).
Significantly, Brighton are also said to be interested, and seeing as Doucoure plays in the same position as Bissouma, the worry now is that Crystal Palace are trumped by their rivals, who will look to reinvest the £25m fee.
If this nightmare does materialise, then those at Selhurst Park will kick themselves for haggling over €10m (£9m), especially after they had agreed a contract with Doucoure.
Crystal Palace must beat Tottenham
In our view, Crystal Palace should now look to accelerate talks with RC Lens and get this deal done as soon as possible, before Spurs confirm the signing of Bissouma.
The likes of Arsenal, Wolves and Everton are also said to be interested in Doucoure, so the competition for his signature is fierce, to say the least.
Therefore, negotiations with RC Lens should be handled with a matter of urgency by Crystal Palace, who certainly don’t have a free run at Doucoure, in our view.
Whatever happens, it would be truly sickening for the Eagles to lose out on their No.1 target to Brighton.
