Yesterday, Fabrizio Romano revealed that Declan Rice had rejected a third contract offer from West Ham, as he aims to leave this summer.

While that news will be difficult to take for West Ham supporters, it should also have those at Crystal Palace feeling slightly concerned.

What’s the story?

Well, if Rice does leave the London Stadium, it seems highly likely that Chelsea will be his destination.

The Express believe the England international is a target for the Blues, and the Evening Standard add that Rice is keen on a move to Stamford Bridge.

However, West Ham are demanding £150m – at least – for the 23-year-old.

So, why should this concern Crystal Palace? Well, in our view, Conor Gallagher could potentially find himself used as part of the negotiations.

£150m is an eye-watering sum of money, which Chelsea will surely struggle to pay despite their riches.

Therefore, offering Gallagher – who Chelsea value at £50m – as part of a player-plus-cash bid may interest West Ham, especially as he could directly replace Rice in midfield.

Crystal Palace could turn to another Chelsea gem if West Ham sign Conor Gallagher

If this theory does come true, and Gallagher ends up in east London, Crystal Palace seem likely to turn their attention to Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

That is not so much a theory, but straight from the mouth of Crystal Palace co-owner Steve Parish, who is quoted by the Mirror as saying: “If there’s an opportunity to get him or even Ruben Loftus-Cheek then of course. These are top players.”

The 26-year-old would be a fine signing, although he would have to work wonders in SE25 if he is to effectively replace what Gallagher brings to the team.
