Yesterday, Crystal Palace announced that Jesurun Rak-Sakyi had joined their south London rivals Charlton on a season-long loan deal.

The 19-year-old also signed a new five-year contract before heading to the Valley, which suggests the Eagles have a lot of faith in their academy graduate.

It is a deserved reward for the teenager after his stunning efforts last season, in which he finished joint-top scorer in the Premier League 2 with 18 goals, while also making his Premier League debut.

To the amusement of some Crystal Palace fans, the Eagles appeared to aim a subtle dig at their south London rivals when announcing the news.

What’s the story?

Well, when Scott Banks joined Bradford on loan, the League One side were named accordingly in the headline of the announcement.

So too were Bromley when Reece Hannam joined on loan, while St Johnstone were also named when Remi Matthews was shipped to Scotland.

However, Crystal Palace made sure to refer to Charlton as a League One club and nothing more, seemingly making fun of their bitter rivals and their lowly position in the English footballing ladder.

Crystal Palace have done Charlton a favour

Despite appearing to mock the Addicks, Crystal Palace have actually done their south London rivals a massive favour.

Rak-Sakyi is one of the brightest prospects in the Premier League, and was even wanted by Rangers back in January before they reached the Europa League final.

As aforesaid, the teenager finished joint-top scorer in the Premier League 2 last season, level with Manchester City wonderkid James McAtee, who has since been loaned to Sheffield United in the Championship.

Rak-Sakyi also could’ve played Championship football this season, as the Evening Standard believe Birmingham and Cardiff were interested in the England Under-20 international.

However, Crystal Palace allowed their No.49 to join Charlton in League One, doing their rivals a huge favour when it surely would’ve been more beneficial for him to play Championship football.
