Crystal Palace have been linked with Newcastle United’s Jack Colback in the January transfer window.

It has been reported that Newcastle manager Rafael Benitez wants Colback to leave the club on a permanent contract this month.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are claimed to be interested in the former Sunderland star, but the Championship club reportedly want the midfielder on a loan deal.
Palace, who are struggling in the Premier League at the moment just like Newcastle are, are interested in Colback, and so are Championship side Ipswich Town, according to The Mirror (Transfer live blog, 09:37, Sunday, January 7, 2018), which also claims that he is rated at £3 million.

Given that Newcastle manager Benitez does not rate the 28-year-old, it would make sense for him to sell him.
Colback, though, is a good midfielder, and if the Magpies sell him to Palace, then they will only be strengthening a direct rival for survival in the Premier League this season.
Meanwhile, Ipswich Town boss Mick McCarthy has suggested that he will not make a move for Colback in January and is quoted as saying by Green’Un24: “Why wouldn’t I be interested in Jack Colback if he was available?
“But I think there will be Premier League teams available and we would only be a loan. If he gets a chance to move and start again elsewhere I think he would much prefer that.”
