Tottenham Hotspur could have Crystal Palace to thank if a new number nine is unveiled in north London this summer.

Because it seems that The Eagles, albeit unwittingly, have just pushed Arkadiusz Milik one step closer to the English capital.

Not that they meant to, of course.

After all, when they farmed misfit striker Aleksander Sorloth out to Tranzonspor last summer, it’s fair to say Roy Hodgson and co did not expect a Selhurst Park benchwarmer to produce 29 goals and 10 assists over in Turkey and catch the eye of some of Europe’s bonafide superclubs.

Just to rub salt into the wounds, Super Lig challengers Trabzonspor have the option to sign Sorloth (dubbed King in the North by none other than Erling Haaland) for as little as £5 million.

And, according to AreaNapoli, they are already planning to sell Sorloth for three times that amount, right under Palace’s nose.

Napoli are keen.

And, make no mistake, interest from the Coppa Italia champions is tied directly into the expectation that Milik will be packing his bags and departing the Stadio San Paolo at some point over the next few weeks.

Goal reported last week that Jose Mourinho’s Spurs are keen on the £40 million-rated Poland star.

And while Milik could finally do what Vincent Janssen and Fernando Llorente couldn’t and provide some much-needed competition for Harry Kane, a man who plays in a number ten role behind Robert Lewandowski at international level is more than capable of starring alongside the England captain as well as instead of him.

The transfer merry-go-round is starting to spin and, if all goes to plan, Palace might end the ride feeling a little nauseous.
