Crystal Palace have started discussions with Paris Saint-Germain to sign Hugo Ekitike before the transfer window closes.

That is according to L’Equipe.

The French outlet claims that Crystal Palace and PSG are in talks about a potential deal for Hugo Ekitike, who is thought to be open to the idea of moving to England.

The 21-year-old made 25 league appearances for the Ligue 1 champions last season, scoring three goals and providing four assists.

PSG signed him from Reims in a deal worth around £30m in total.

Hugo Ekitike is the kind of signing Crystal Palace need

Palace could probably do with the arrival of a very exciting name like Ekitike. It is likely to lighten the mood at Selhurst Park a little following the departure of Wilfried Zaha.

“There is something very special about him,” his former manager Oscar Garcia said when talking about the French youngster in the past.

Last season was not his best, but he did manage to score 10 goals in 24 Ligue 1 outings during his final campaign at Reims, which is quite impressive for such a young forward.

If Ekitike joins Palace and can rediscover that kind of form, he could be a great asset to them.

Finding the back of the net was an area Roy Hodgson’s men struggled in last term. They scored just 40 times in the Premier League, so strengthening their forward line makes a lot of sense. And a player of Ekitike’s quality looks like he could help the Eagles to do just that.

Zaha is gone, but an attack of Ekitike, Michael Olise and Eberechi Eze could be quite exciting. All in all, then, Palace and Hodgson should do whatever they can to bring the PSG star to Selhurst Park before the transfer market shuts this week.
