Crystal Palace are expecting an approach for defender Marc Guehi before the transfer window closes.

That is according to a report from the Evening Standard.

It claims that Crystal Palace are anticipating approaches for Marc Guehi and his team-mate Eberechi Eze this week.

Tottenham Hotspur are said to be long-term admirers of the 23-year-old and it will now be interesting to see if they actually make a move for him.

One player who looks like he will definitely be staying at Palace is midfielder Cheick Doucoure. The same report from the Evening Standard states that Liverpool have been put off by the Eagles’ £70m valuation of the player.

The Reds are trying to strengthen their engine room after allowing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to move to Saudi Arabia, but Doucoure no longer looks to be a viable option for them.

Crystal Palace cannot afford to sell Marc Guehi now

It would be madness for Palace to let Guehi go. He is one of their best players and is going to be practically impossible to replace this late in the transfer window.

This season, the England international is making 3.3 clearances per game, which is the second-highest average in Roy Hodgson’s squad (WhoScored).

While Palace have lost Wilfried Zaha, this summer could have been much worse. The Eagles managed to keep hold of Michael Olise and get him to sign a new contract in a huge boost to the club.

However, if they then go on to sell Guehi, it will just feel like one step forward, two steps back.

Ultimately, given his importance to the side and the fact that the transfer market is about to shut soon, it would be a bit of a shock if Palace sold the £50,000-a-week (Spotrac) central defender. Never say never, but it seems highly unlikely.
