Spurs, Crystal Palace and West Ham are the sides who want to bring Cedric Bakambu to Wembley from Villarreal.
If Tottenham Hotspur want to bring the red-hot Cedric Bakambu to North London, they will have to make the Congolese hitman their most expensive striker of all time and pay the second biggest transfer fee in the club’s history.
Sport.fr claim that Spurs are one of a number of Premier League clubs interested in Bakambu in January with London rivals Crystal Palace and West Ham also interested.
Clearly, Palace need a reliable goalscorer with Roy Hodgson’s side still bottom of the Premier League table and with none of their strikers having scored a goal all season long. Christian Benteke’s dismal last minute penalty miss in Saturday’s 2-2 draw with Bournemouth summed up their profligacy in front of goal of late.
And there’s little doubting that Palace need Bakambu more than Spurs, who have the unstoppable Harry Kane leading the line and Fernando Llorente in reserve and finally showing signs of goalscoring form.
But you can surely never have too many quality strikers, particularly if you hope to complete on domestic and European fronts. And there’s no doubting the quality of Bakambu, who has 15 goals in 22 games in all competitions for Villarreal this season, including nine in La Liga.
A ruthless finisher who is lethal inside the penalty area, not to mention boasting a dead-eyed finish in one on one situations, Bakambu would add the fearsome pace that Spurs strikeforce is currently lacking.
And £35 million would be a fine investment for a player who could take Spurs to the next level.
