Crystal Palace have announced that manager Sam Allardyce will not only be leaving the club, but he has no intention of managing again.
The Eagles swooped to land Allardyce as their new manager in December 2016 following Alan Pardew’s departure, handing ‘Big Sam’ a return to football following his acrimonious departure from the England job in September.
Allardyce initially started slowly at Selhurst Park, but he masterminded wins over Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool to save the club from relegation, ending the season with a 2-0 defeat at Manchester United.

Many expected Allardyce to rebuild Palace this summer, but instead he has decided to call it quits on his time in South London, and in management altogether in a shock move.

Out of work for less than a week having resigned from his post as Leeds United manager, Monk could be in line for a swift return to management having emerged as the odds-on favourite to become Palace boss. The 38-year-old impressed in his one season at Leeds, taking the club to the brink of the play-offs before a late-season collapse. Now just 4/6, Monk may well be heading to Selhurst Park.
Burnley manager Sean Dyche
Roy Hodgson: 6/4
Hodgson, 69, hasn’t been seen in a dugout since England’s embarrassing 2-1 defeat to Iceland at Euro 2016, but he may fancy one last crack at the Premier League following recent spells with Fulham, Liverpool and West Brom. Born in Croydon and a former Palace youth graduate, Hodgson is now just 6/4 for the job, making him second favourite to replace Allardyce – the man who replaced him as England manager.
Sean Dyche: 4/1
Former Watford boss Dyche has worked wonders since becoming Burnley manager in 2012, winning two promotions to the Premier League – and he finally kept the Clarets in the top flight this time around. Burnley certainly won’t want to lose their impressive manager, who masterminded a 2-0 win over Palace at Selhurst Park just last month, but he’s now just 4/1 to become Eagles boss.
Paulo Sousa
Roberto Mancini: 6/1
Italian boss Mancini hasn’t worked in England since leaving his position as Manchester City in the summer of 2013, but he has had spells with Galatasaray and Inter Milan since his departure. Now out of work, Mancini may fancy a return to the Premier League, and he’s as short as 6/1 to be named as Allardyce replacement.
Paulo Sousa: 12/1
Portuguese boss Sousa is a free agent having left Fiorentina on Sunday, and he could be in line for a return to English football having previously been in charge of QPR, Leicester City and Swansea City. Now just 12/1 for the job, the 46-year-old is a new name to keep an eye on for Palace fans.
