According to a report on page 62 of the printed edition of The Sun, Crystal Palace are lining up a £5 million move for Sam Johnstone in January.

Johnstone is currently on loan at Villa from Manchester United, and he is set to spend the season at Villa Park.

However, United have included a clause in the deal, which means that they can recall him, if they can agree a permanent transfer.

Palace are now looking to buy the 24-year-old, and if Johnstone does move to Selhurst Park, it would seriously derail Villa’s promotion push.

Johnstone has been at Villa for almost 18 months now, and he has become a vital player for the claret and blues.

The United loanee is one of the stand out goalkeepers in the Championship, and having to find a replacement would be a hugely tough task.

Villa only have a limited budget, so completing a deal for a new number one of the same quality as Johnstone will be a huge challenge for Steve Bruce.

And Villa must hope that Palace fail to do a deal for the Johnstone, as their push for the top six could be derailed if the England youth international does depart.
