Crystal Palace and Leeds are both keen to hire Marco Silva after his impressive work at Fulham this season.
It was the Daily Mail who claimed that the Portuguese tactician is an option to replace Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park, while Leeds are also keen with Sam Allardyce not expected to stay beyond the current campaign.
Now – after an announcement from the Premier League – Crystal Palace and Leeds are probably more keen to hire Marco Silva.
What’s the story?
Well, the 45-year-old has now been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Season award.
Silva has earned a nomination after guiding Fulham to tenth in the Premier League – as things stand – in a campaign where the Cottagers were not troubled by relegation fears at any point following last season’s promotion from the Championship.
Fulham also reached the FA Cup Quarter-Final in what has been a tremendous campaign.
Roberto De Zerbi, Pep Guardiola, Mikel Arteta, Unai Emery and Eddie Howe join Silva on the shortlist.
Crystal Palace & Leeds will struggle to hire Marco Silva
In our view, we can’t see Silva choosing to abandon his project at Fulham for Crystal Palace or Leeds.
A move to Elland Road – in particular – surely won’t happen if Leeds are relegated to the Championship.
While Crystal Palace actually interviewed Silva before choosing to hire Patrick Vieira, we doubt he would be tempted by a move to south London enough to throw away everything he has built at Craven Cottage.
In west London, Silva has earned fan favourite status amongst supporters, and has created a platform for Fulham to kick on with the Premier League’s top eight in his sights.
Surely, he wouldn’t abandon that to start afresh at Crystal Palace or Leeds, even if either side choose to trigger his £6m release clause – if they do, Silva would still need to agree to the move.
