Crystal Palace are now interested in bringing Marco Silva to Selhurst Park as a replacement for Roy Hodgson.

The 75-year-old was hired on a short-term basis to steer the south Londoners away from the relegation zone after a woeful run of form under Patrick Vieira, and he has carried out that task to some effect with the Eagles now safe.

It was the News Shopper who claimed that Marco Silva is now in Crystal Palace‘s sights as they look to embark on a new long-term project.

While every story should be taken with a pinch of salt at this stage of the season, Crystal Palace and the Portuguese coach certainly have history.

What’s the story?

Well – according to The Athletic – Crystal Palace first tried to hire Silva back in 2017 as they attempted to replace Sam Allardyce.

The Lisbon-born tactician eventually moved to Watford as Frank de Boer arriving in SE25 instead, a move which turned out to be a disaster.

Then – again detailed by The Athletic – Crystal Palace interviewed Silva in the summer of 2021.

The Eagles were looking for a successor to Hodgson, and it is said that Silva impressed those at Selhurst Park during an online interview.

However, Crystal Palace eventually decided to appoint Vieira.

Crystal Palace will have to pay up for Marco Silva

With Fulham sitting tenth in the Premier League following a hugely successful season, which has also involved an FA Cup Quarter-Final, some may question why the Cottagers would let Silva depart Craven Cottage.

Ultimately, it may not be up to the west Londoners.

The Daily Mail believe Silva has a £6m release clause written into his contract, which means Crystal Palace have a route to hold talks with the 45-year-old if they choose to pay up.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Crystal Palace could soon be hiring Silva six years after first showing an interest in his services.
