Crystal Palace suffered a 2-1 loss to Brighton on Monday night in the FA Cup.

Crystal Palace were knocked out of the FA Cup on Monday night in just the third round of the competition to Brighton as the Seagulls scored a late winner in the 87th minute – and fans have blasted Jairo Riedewald’s performance on Twitter.

Brighton midfielder Dale Stephens gave Chris Hughton’s side the lead in the first half, as he broke through the Crystal Palace defence to smash home an effort that proved too strong for Wayne Hennessey.

However, Bakary Sako equalised in the second half with a fantastic strike from all of 25 yards that hit Mat Ryan’s post before bouncing in. But target man Glenn Murray saved the day for Brighton as he bundled home Uwe Hunemeier’s header.

Palace fans were on the back foot for much of the night and although they had the odd half-chance, they could have lost the match by a much larger margin had Sam Baldock, Tomer Hemed and Beram Kayal buried chances.

In what was a disappointing performance, Palace fans criticised the display of 21-year-old Riedewald in what was only his ninth appearance in all competitions for the London-based club.

One fan even described his efforts as “shocking”.
