Newcastle are reportedly set to cash in on ex-Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle.

Newcastle United could be busy on deadline day, and whilst manager Rafael Benitez will hope that it’s mainly incomings, the Magpies may also be set to offload a number of players.

Grant Hanley joined Norwich City on Wednesday, whilst speculation surrounds the futures of players like Tim Krul, Karl Darlow, Achraf Lazaar, Jack Colback and Henri Saivet.

A shock exit could also be on the cards, with Newcastle potentially poised to cash in on striker Dwight Gayle, despite him firing the Magpies to promotion from the Championship last season.

Gayle, 27, joined Newcastle from Crystal Palace last summer, and he smashed 23 goals in 34 games as the Magpies went straight back up to the Premier League, with many expecting him to enjoy a strong Premier League campaign.

However, after firing blanks against both Tottenham Hotspur and Huddersfield Town, Gayle was dropped in favour of Joselu for Saturday’s game against West Ham, and he may have played his final game for Newcastle.

Sky Sports claim that Fulham have submitted a £15million bid for Gayle, and with Newcastle seeking a fee closer to £20million, there is every chance that he will be leaving St. James’ Park before tonight’s 11pm deadline.

A move back to London could be in the pipeline for Gayle, having hit 25 goals in 74 games for Crystal Palace – and Eagles fans have been taking to Twitter to give their views on Newcastle’s stance on Gayle, with regards to being open to selling him.

Many want Gayle to return to Selhurst Park to offer cover, competition and possibly even a striking partner for Christian Benteke, believing he is the type of striker needed in the Palace squad, given that they have yet to score even once in the Premier League this term.

Others reminded fans that Gayle is a Championship player and not good enough for the Premier League, with Newcastle now realising what Palace did a year ago, urging other supporters to forget about bringing him back to South London.
