We’re not even into November but Crystal Palace have already been linked with two of Chelsea’s three Premier League strikers.

According to The Sun (22 October, page 49), The Eagles have already hit a brick wall in their attempts to bring last season’s loan star Michy Batshuayi back to Selhurst Park on a permanent basis.

Chelsea are reluctant to let Batshuayi go as long as they remain under a transfer ban – but they are open to letting Olivier Giroud make a short trip across London.

The 33-year-old has slipped down the pecking order under Frank Lampard and, with his contract due to expire next summer, The Sun reports that Chelsea are willing to listen to offers of just £3 million.

Just imagine; a World Cup winner, a proven Premier League striker with 78 top-flight goals to his name arriving at Selhurst Park for as little as £3 million.

Despite sitting pretty in the top half, Crystal Palace have averaged less than a goal a game this season and Giroud, a targetman whose skill and brilliant hold-up play got the very best out of Mesut Ozil, Eden Hazard and co, is not only a major upgrade on Christian Benteke but a player capable of taking Andros Townsend and Wilfried Zaha to new heights too.
