Crystal Palace lost their fifth game in succession this weekend.

Only time will tell if Crystal Palace made a mistake sacking Frank de Boer after just four matches at the helm, but whatever the future holds it is clear his successor Roy Hodgson is not going to turn things round over night.
The former England watched glumly as his new players failed to score for the fifth straight match, losing 1-0 to Southampton and seemingly admitting that a relegation battle is upon them with even tougher matches to come.

Many of Palace’s players under-performed on the day including Jeffrey Schlupp, who came in for plenty of criticism after the final whistle.
The 24-year-old is yet to really prove his worth in the Premier League despite being highly rated at former club Leicester City, and on Saturday he struggled to make any significant impact.

Schlupp started the season out of the team but he has kicked off recent 1-0 defeats against both Burnley and Southampton and he needs to do a lot better if he is to maintain that starting spot for the long haul.
Hodgson will have known the challenge ahead of him when he first took charge at Selhurst Park, but on this evidence it could be a long, hard campaign for the Eagles.
