Crystal Palace fans have been reacting on Twitter to James Tomkins’ performance against Brighton on Tuesday night, and it appears that a number of the supporters are giving the 28-year-old their man of the match award.

The Eagles went into the game at the Amex Stadium looking to bag their first points on the road at the seventh time of asking after six defeats on their travels so far.

Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson looks on during the Premier League match between Brighton and Hove Albion and Crystal Palace at Amex Stadium on November 28, 2017 in Brighton, England.

And they did manage to take a share of the points as the game ended 0-0 to move Roy Hodgson’s men to within three points of Everton, who sit just outside the relegation zone in the top flight.

A number of players received praise on social media, but it seems that Tomkins was one of the players who received the most credit from the supporters after the stalemate.

The centre-back was an unused substitute for the first two games in November, but returned to the starting lineup against Stoke at the weekend and kept his place against the Seagulls – and his performance showed exactly why Hodgson kept faith with him.

The Palace fans appear to be optimistic that he could be forming an excellent partnership with Mamadou Sakho, and with the team now within touching distance of dragging themselves out of danger, having that settled pairing at the heart of the defence could be crucial.
