Crystal Palace were reportedly interested in signing Liverpool defender Nathaniel Clyne this summer.

A number of Crystal Palace fans have taken to Twitter to react to reports from The Telegraph this week claiming that Nathaniel Clyne has left Liverpool’s pre-season tour of America and will now miss the next six months due to injury.

Clyne leaving Anfield looked to be a real possibility this summer. He spent the second-half of last season on loan at Bournemouth, and struggled to prove a point to his parent club during his time at the Vitality Stadium as they went on to challenge for the Premier League title and win the Champions League.

The Telegraph reports that the full-back has one year left on his contract on Merseyside, and the Reds had been discussing a move with several teams, including the Eagles.

However, a massive spanner has been thrown into the works, with The Telegraph adding that he is now set to be sidelined for six months after suffering a cruciate ligament injury.

For Palace fans, the news is extremely alarming. While it is clear that some were divided over Clyne’s potential return to Selhurst Park, most are now extremely concerned about the lack of signings.

Roy Hodgson’s men have only added one outfield player to their ranks this summer, and they desperately need a new right-back following Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s departure. Unfortunately, Clyne is no longer going to be the man to fill that void.
