It may have been an agonising night for Crystal Palace, but the Eagles fans were full of praise for January signing Alexander Sorloth after his performance in their defeat to Manchester United at Selhurst Park.

After pulling off a miraculous run of form to get themselves out of trouble earlier in the season, Roy Hodgson’s men slipped back into the bottom three over the weekend after Southampton’s draw with Stoke City lifted them above Palace in the table.

But it appeared for a long time that Palace would be able to lift themselves out of trouble straight away as they took a 2-0 lead against Jose Mourinho’s men with Patrick van Aanholt scoring the home side’s second three minutes after the break.

However, United would break Palace’s hearts as they went on to score three times, including a long-range winner from Nemanja Matic in stoppage-time to seal the win that takes them back into second place.

There were a number of performances from Palace players that attracted praise, and one of those displays came from Sorloth, who was making only his third appearance for the club following his £9 million move earlier in the year (via Daily Mail).

Sorloth looked lively for much of the game – though he did seem to tire during the latter stages – and seemed more than capable of causing the United defence problems, and that has left a number of Eagles fans optimistic that he is going to prove an excellent signing for the club once he is settled.
