Crystal Palace boosted their Premier League survival hopes on Saturday afternoon with a 2-0 away win at relegation rivals Huddersfield Town.
The Eagles went into the game having failed to win any of their previous seven matches, and knew they needed a positive result as they made the trip to West Yorkshire.
Roy Hodgson’s men got exactly what they wanted, as James Tomkins opened the scoring before Luka Milivojevic converted a penalty, after Andros Townsend had been fouled in the box.
That handed Palace a 2-0 win over the Terriers, and have now moved up into 16th place in the Premier League table, leapfrogging London rivals West Ham United in the process.
Palace are only two points clear of the relegation zone, but Saturday was a huge win for the Eagles, and their fans took to Twitter over the weekend to celebrate, praising one player in particular.
Defender Tomkins has impressed this season, and not only did he catch the eye with his goal, but also another fine defensive display as he helped Palace keep a clean sheet at John Smith’s Stadium.
Tomkins, 28, has been a consistent performer for Palace since his £10million move from West Ham in 2016 (Sky Sports), and fans took to Twitter to mock the Hammers for agreeing such a deal.
Supporters suggested that West Ham have made a big mistake, and seeing him celebrate with Palace must be hard for them to take given that he came up through the Hammers ranks, with many thanking West Ham for allowing Tomkins to make the move to Selhurst Park.
