Crystal Palace could now sign Young Moraes on a free transfer as his future at São Paulo is clouded in uncertainty.
The 21-year-old is also attracting interest from Benfica and Fiorentina as São Paulo attempt to keep him in Brazil.
Moraes – who is commonly known as Young – is now taking his future into his own hands.
What’s the story?
Well – according to Torcedores – the Brazilian goalkeeper is refusing to sign a new contract at São Paulo with his current terms set to expire in August.
The South American youngster is fourth choice in the pecking order behind Rafael, Jandrei and Felipe Alves.
Despite São Paulo’s attempts to keep Young, it is widely expected that he will leave on a free transfer.
That gives Crystal Palace the chance to snap up a potential star of the future for nothing this summer.
The south Londoners have already dipped into the South American market to sign a young goalkeeper in Lucas Perri back in January 2019, so they are no strangers to a transfer like this.
Torcedores add that legendary goalkeeper Rogério Ceni was the man to promote Young into the first-team, having made almost 100 appearances in the youth ranks.
The Catanduva-born glovesman is expected to continue training with the first-team despite his stance over a new contract, which gives him the opportunity to move up in the pecking order before his deal expires.
Young unlikely to experience anything different at Crystal Palace
In our view, Young is unlikely to get more first-team opportunities if he joined Crystal Palace.
The south Londoners already have Sam Johnstone, Vicente Guaita and Jack Butland, while 19-year-old Joe Whitworth recently impressed against Brighton and Arsenal as the aforementioned trio were injured.
Therefore, we can’t understand why Crystal Palace would want another goalkeeper.
It would also be an odd choice for Young to join the Eagles, given the fact he is likely to find himself in the same position regarding the pecking order.
