The Eagles went a long way to securing their Premier League status with a surprise win over Chelsea at the weekend.
Crystal Palace’s Wilfried Zaha scores their first goal
Crystal Palace caused the biggest footballing shock at the weekend by defeating champions elect Chelsea 2-1 at Stamford Bridge, and continued to prove their doubters wrong in the process.
Goals from Wilfried Zaha and Christian Benteke condemned the Blues to a surprise defeat, while the Eagles made it four straight Premier League wins and made big advancements in their battle to avoid relegation.
It wasn’t that long ago where pundits and fans alike had considered Palace doomed – plenty had written both themselves and new manager Sam Allardyce off after a slow start to life at Selhurst Park, but the Eagles are now four points clear of the drop zone.
Last season in similar circumstances, Allardyce’s Sunderland only lost once from March to the end of the season, and with a better squad than what he had at the Stadium of Light, it’s possible Palace could go on a similar run.

While they have their work cut out and face fixtures against several of the bigger boys in the league such as Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester City and Arsenal, as well as hosting last year’s champions in Leicester City, Saturday’s result proved that Palace aren’t to be underestimated.
It’s still too early to consider Palace safe, with the Eagles nine points away from the coveted 40 point barrier, but on recent form, few would bet against them doing so.
