West Ham fans have taken to Twitter to react after Jonjo Shelvey made a remark about their squad ahead of the clash with Newcastle tomorrow.
Speaking on talkSPORT, the 6-cap England international said: “The squad we’ve got on paper, I don’t think theirs is better than ours, to be honest. I think we’ve got a great squad, we just haven’t performed to the level we can. It’s only recently we’ve picked up a few better results.”
In fairness to the £12 million man, it’s not the wildest opinion we’ve ever seen.
Of course, we don’t agree that Newcastle’s squad is better than West Ham’s – not by any means.
The Irons have quality littered all over the pitch. Vladimír Coufal is far better than Javier Manquillo or Emil Krafth.

Declan Rice and Tomáš Souček also put Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Shelvey himself to shame – they’re one of the best duos in the division.
However, you can see why Shelvey thinks the Magpies have a good squad.
In Allan Saint-Maximin and Callum Wilson, Newcastle have two players who could arguably play for a top six side.

Elsewhere, the likes of Martin Dubravka and Fabian Schar aren’t too dissimilar in quality to Lukasz Fabianski and Issa Diop, for example.
Having said that, from an overall aspect, Newcastle certainly do not have a better squad than West Ham – that is a stone cold fact, we’re afraid.
Let’s see what the West Ham fans on Twitter have been saying about Shelvey’s comments…
