After Rafael Benitez slammed Peter Crouch by saying that Liverpool lost the Champions League Final to AC Milan in 2007 due to him coming on for Javier Mascherano, the man himself responded.

After the Reds beat Milan in Istanbul on penalties in 2005 in perhaps the greatest comeback triumph in the history of the game, the Italian giants exacted revenge with a 2-1 win just two years later.

Now, Peter Crouch has responded to Rafael Benitez about his claim about his role in Liverpool finishing second best in the Champions League Final to AC Milan, due to him replacing Javier Mascherano.

Crouch replies to Benitez after Mascherano comment about the Champions League Final in 2005 vs AC Milan

The 42-year-old is remembered as a cult hero at Anfield, who stayed at the club for only 3 years but had a sizable impact during his short stint after a memorably poor start.

After ex-Liverpool boss Rafael Benitez made headlines for his comment about how his decision to replace Javier Mascherano for Peter Crouch backfired in the Champions League Final in 2007, he responded in the comments section of an Empire of the Kop post.

“No comment. Rafa gave me the chance to play for the best club in the world. Whatever he says goes.”

Former Liverpool man shows class

It would have been understandable if the retired goalscorer was upset and raged at his former manager for his blunt statement.

Instead, Peter Crouch chose to take the classy route and thanked Rafael Benitez for the opportunity to play for Liverpool, regardless of whether he may even disagree with the fact that him replacing Javier Mascherano led to Liverpool losing to AC Milan in the Champions League Final.

While ex-players often made controversial statements that result in them getting mainstream relevance again, the renowned media personality chose to be the bigger man in this situation.
