The future of Cristiano Ronaldo has been the subject of huge speculation throughout the summer and now, one-time Leeds United goalkeeper Marco Silvestri has urged the Manchester United man to join in-form Serie A side Udinese.

Silvestri, 31, and Udinese have made a fantastic start to the 2022-23 campaign in his second season with the club. After seven games in Serie A, the Italy goalkeeper has conceded just eight goals in eight games – keeping three clean sheets.

The club sit third in Serie A. On Sunday, the produced a stunning 3-1 win over 2020-21 Serie A champions Inter Milan. Perhaps, they will be making a push for Europe. Clearly, confidence is high among the Udinese players this term.

Silvestri has never been short of a few words, or out of the headlines – just ask Leeds fans. He spent three years at Leeds, joining the club under Massimo Cellino in 2014 and playing 98 times in three seasons for the Yorkshire club.

Renowned for his penalty-saving ability, Silvestri was often seen berating defenders. Of course, was one of the six players to pull out of a game against Charlton in April 2015. Now, he has a message for United superstar Ronaldo.

Responding to a DAZN Instagram post about Ronaldo, Udinese’s Twitter account quoted Silvestri. He urged the Real Madrid, United, Portugal, Juventus and Sporting Lisbon legend to make a surprise switch to high-flying Udinese.

While it would be a shock move to join a club like Udinese, it looks more than likely that Ronaldo will leave next summer. His contract at Old Trafford expires at the end of the season, but retirement does not seem on the cards.

It seems much more likely that Ronaldo will join a club on United’s level, but away from the Premier League. Napoli were interested in the summer, and that is kind of the level Ronaldo can expect. The slower Serie A may suit him.

Or of course, a romantic return to Sporting Lisbon – the club where it all started – may be the way Ronaldo wants to finish his career. As things stand, he is incredibly unlikely to leave Old Trafford and United until the end of his deal.
