Novak Djokovic and Cristiano Ronaldo were among the high-profile stars in attendance at the Globe Soccer Awards, which took place in Dubai on Sunday.

Djokovic received the Globe Sportsman of the Year award, which the tennis legend collected from football superstar Ronaldo.

The Serbian boasts 24 Grand Slam titles, more than any other man, with that tally level with female icon Margaret Court.

But he can extend his tally at the upcoming Australian Open, where his 10 titles are again more than any other man.

Cristiano Ronaldo praises ‘example’ Novak Djokovic

Djokovic has received high praise ahead of the event from Ronaldo, who has reached heights not many others have in football.

The Portuguese icon said of his fellow sportsman: “For me, he’s an example. When you have people as examples, the awards come by themselves. His longevity, we have a similar story.

“So I think he deserves it because he’s a great example for this generation, the old generation, the generation that’s going to come. He deserves it.”

Novak Djokovic calls Cristiano Ronaldo a ‘sporting legend’

Djokovic was quick to return the praise, with Ronaldo currently chasing the stunning mark of 1,000 career goals.

The 40-year-old has vowed to continue playing until he hits that tally for club and country, which currently sits at 956.

His fellow veteran Djokovic said upon receiving his latest honor: “It’s a great surprise. To be here is a privilege, and receiving an award from another sporting legend is a dream come true.

“I’m a big fan of football. I came here to celebrate the incredible year that everyone is having and I was caught off guard, in a positive way. I couldn’t be happier.

“When he was at [Real] Madrid he would show up at the Madrid tournament, and it would be an added pressure but also an inspiration for us to do our best.

“He was ruling the world at the time, and he still keeps going. I’m very thankful to hear these words from him and also thankful to call him a friend, and someone who really inspires me.”

Both sporting stars have indeed proven that so much success can be earned through determination and hard work.

They haven’t slowed down despite getting older, with Djokovic still in with a chance of more success on the ATP Tour at the age of 38.
