Cristiano Ronaldo gave Portugal’s tense World Cup start a lighter moment by turning Francisco Conceição’s height into a training-ground joke.
The clip spread quickly because it showed Ronaldo relaxed, laughing and pulling teammates into the mood after a frustrating opening result.
For Portugal, that kind of energy matters as much as the tactical work before their next group game.

Cristiano Ronaldo teases Francisco Conceição in Portugal training
A JuveFC post showed Ronaldo joking with “Chico” Conceição about their height difference during Portugal’s World Cup training session.
The moment came as the players were going through a warm-up and stretching routine. Ronaldo, listed at around 6-foot-2, lined up near Conceição, who is around 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7, then jokingly dropped down to match his teammate’s level.
Conceição appeared to take it exactly as intended, smiling and continuing the session as those around them enjoyed the joke.
It was not from a match, and there was no confrontation. It was simply a veteran star teasing a younger teammate in a squad that needed a bit of looseness after a slow start.
Portugal need Ronaldo and Conceição after DR Congo draw
The timing gave the video extra relevance.
Portugal opened Group K with a 1-1 draw against DR Congo at Houston Stadium. João Neves scored early, but Portugal failed to turn control into a win, leaving Roberto Martínez’s side under pressure before facing Uzbekistan on June 23.
Ronaldo started and played the full match, finishing without a goal or assist. His role drew scrutiny afterward as Portugal looked too predictable for long spells.
Conceição came on at halftime for Bernardo Silva and brought direct running, even if he also finished without a goal or assist. He later pushed back on the idea that Portugal feel forced to pass to Ronaldo, saying players choose the best option.
That makes the training joke useful context. Ronaldo remains the leader, Conceição is pushing for minutes, and Portugal need both edge and chemistry before a must-win response.
