Former Manchester United icon Cristiano Ronaldo has backed Radamel Falcao to be a success at the club.
Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo believes Radamel Falcao will be a successful signing at Manchester United.
Falcao was strongly linked with making a move to Real Madrid, where he would have been playing alongside the Portuguese forward.
He clinched a late loan deal to United on deadline day, which surprised many considering their perceived need for defenders and midfielders appearing greater than that for a striker.
Yet Ronaldo has rebuffed suggestions United signed the wrong player, arguing the Monaco owned goalscorer will prove a hit.
He said, reported by Spanish newspaper AS: “It was a fantastic purchase. He is a very good player. I think Manchester has done very well.
“I do not think that he is the wrong kind of player. On the contrary, I think he is a top player and therefore I do not think it’s a mistaken purchase.”
As manager Louis van Gaal suggested, when a player of Falcao’s calibre come onto the transfer market, especially for a knock-down loan fee, you have to consider it.
United’s determination to secure the striker saw all parties come together to pull off a deal, and it’s hard not to wonder if Ronaldo is not a little jealous at the major coup his club have pulled off.
