Cristiano Ronaldo has been able to break another record in his career.

Ronaldo started Portugal’s World Cup Group K opener against DR Congo and knows that this will be his last chance to win the biggest prize in football.

After seeing Lionel Messi bag a hat-trick against Algeria, the pressure is on the forward to deliver. However, he has been able to break a record just one second into the game.

Cristiano Ronaldo becomes the oldest player to start a World Cup game

Aged 41, Ronaldo is one of the oldest players to play at a World Cup, but his start against DR Congo has helped him achieve the record of becoming the oldest outfield player to start at a World Cup.

At the time of his start, he was 41 years and 132 days old.

He won’t have the chance to become oldest goalscorer at the tournament though. Roger Milla of Cameroon continues to hold that after his goal against Russia in the 1994 World Cup at the age of 42 years and 39 days old.

One record he could overtake is becoming Portugal’s oldest goalscorer at a World Cup, taking over Pepe who leads the way at 39 years and 283 days old. A goal in the knockout stages would also make him the oldest World Cup goalscorer in the latter part of the tournament.

In what is his sixth, and probably final World Cup appearance, there is still a chance to claim more records and win the ultimate prize.
