Cristian Romero’s father has said Tottenham have already asked the Argentine centre-back to return to England already despite just winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to La Voz, Victor Romero revealed that Tottenham have communicated with Romero to return to London despite the 24-year-old being in Argentina celebrating the World Cup triumph, with the defender’s father saying: “He won’t have much time to enjoy himself. We’ll see how it goes. But they want him back in England already.”
Romero was a key part of Argentina’s success in Qatar as the defender was a regular for the South American nation in their historic World Cup win in the Middle East. However, Antonio Conte is seemingly keen for the defender to return to north London already ahead of the Premier League restart.
Spurs travel to Brentford in the early Boxing Day fixture as Tottenham will look to strengthen their top-four spot ahead of the festive run, though it is currently not yet known if Romero will be back in time to feature against the Bees next Monday.

Romero was one of two Tottenham players to play in the final on Sunday as Hugo Lloris captained France in his second World Cup final appearance, and just like the centre-back, it is not yet known if the Spurs skipper will be back in time to face Brentford next week.
Indeed, having Romero and Lloris back to face Brentford will be massive for Tottenham. However, there’s a duty of care the club must provide to the players, and given how intense the fixture schedule will be for the next few weeks, giving the duo some time off could go a long way in the long-term.
Romero could do with rest despite call to come back to Tottenham

It makes sense why Tottenham are eager for Romero to return already, with the defender one of Conte’s most important players and a name who could be the different between a win or a draw against Brentford. Yet the north London side must respect the welfare of the centre-back.
After all, players are playing more games than ever before within the tightest of timeframes, and for Tottenham, rushing Romero so quickly could cause a major injury issues heading into the second half of the season.
