Tottenham defender Cristian Romero has admitted that the squad currently lacks solidity after a 1-0 loss in the UEFA Champions League to AC Milan, with Spurs needing a comeback to progress to the next round.

Speaking to the press via the Evening Standard, the Argentine international revealed that the north London side are in a slump after a second loss in a row, with Antonio Conte’s side being humbled 4-1 by Leicester City on the weekend despite recently beating Manchester City.

Romero said on the current mood in the Tottenham dressing room after their loss to Milan: “We’re in a tough moment with highs and lows, and we lack solidity as a team. Hope is the last thing that goes. We have a good team and can turn things around at home.”

With the away goal rule being scrapped in European competitions, Tottenham have a great chance of completing a comeback against Milan when the Rossoneri travel to the English capital in early March, where a 2-0 win will be enough for Conte’s side to progress to the quarter-finals.

However, with Spurs failing to show up at the San Siro despite two bright performances from Olivier Skipp and Pape Matar Sarr, Tottenham have to ensure their form picks up between now and the rematch against Milan in a few weeks time, with Romero seemingly keen to patch things up in the squad.

Indeed, the £43m defender is a firm fan favourite at Tottenham for his aggressive style of defending, and with the centre-back now trying to work up the team, the Argentine’s efforts could be important in Spurs getting back to their best in the upcoming matches.

Romero has been one of Tottenham’s most important players ever since arriving from Atalanta last season, and the defender has hit the nail on the head in his recent comments that Spurs need more solidity if they’re to get any sort of result against Milan next month.

With the Argentine seemingly taking the role of defacto leader in the press, Romero now has to ensure that Tottenham are up for the occasion in north London when Milan return to put the tie to bed, with elimination from the Champions League the last thing Conte will want as manager.
