Cristian Gamboa wants to be at Celtic next season.

Celtic's Cristian Gamboa attends a training session ahead of their Champions League match against Barcelona in Glasgow on November 22, 2016.

Celtic defender Cristian Gamboa has suggested to The Scottish Sun that he wants to stay at the club for the 2018-19 campaign.

Gamboa has been on the books of Celtic since the summer of 2016 when he joined from West Bromwich Albion for a transfer fee reported by Herald Scotland to be worth £1 million.

The 28-year-old right-back – who earns £15,000 per week as salary, according to The Daily Star – has made just 24 appearances in all competitions for the Glasgow giants, as stated on Celtic’s official website.

The Costa Rica international’s current contract with the Hoops runs out next summer, according to Transfermarkt.com, and Gamboa has suggested that he wants to be at Celtic next season.

Gamboa told The Scottish Sun: “I always said Celtic is a fantastic club, my family are happy here and I still have one more year of my contract.

“So I will just keep going and working hard. There are a lot of good players around but that’s the way it is at a big club.”

Celtic stay

Gamboa played well for Costa Rica at the 2018 World Cup in Russia this summer, and the former West Brom defender showed what he is capable of.

Perhaps Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers should give Gamboa more chances next season and make use of his experience.

The Hoops are aiming to win the domestic treble next season as well as progress to the group stage of the Champions League.
