West Bromwich Albion defender Cristian Gamboa has played just three times for Tony Pulis’s side this season.

Cristian Gamboa has told the Birmingham Mail that it was special to play for West Bromwich Albion against Peterborough United.

Gamboa has struggled for appearances with the Baggies this season, but he was handed a start in the FA Cup fourth round replay.

The match was his first for over five months and the Costa Rica international was delighted to make it onto the field.

“I’d been five months without playing a game so for me it was a little bit special to be in the first 11,” he said.

“It was good that we got the result and went through to the next round, so for me it was a special feeling to play again.”

Gamboa’s performance for West Brom against Peterborough was impressive, although his side only just made it through against their League One opponents.

The Baggies ended up sneaking into the fifth round on penalties, after being matched all the way by Graham Westley’s men.

Since that match Gamboa has been forced to move back to his more familiar position of sitting on the bench, with Pulis overlooking him in his side’s recent Premier League matches.

Gamboa could come back into contention at the weekend, however, as the Baggies are set to take on Reading in the fifth round of the FA Cup with squad changes likely.
