New Celtic signing Cristian Gamboa has told the club’s official website he is ready to fight for a first team place at the club.

The right back completed a move to the Scottish champions on Wednesday in a switch from Premier League side West Bromwich Albion.

He faces a fight to get into the first team though with Mikael Lustig and Saidy Janko providing stern competition in the position.

The 26-year-old is confident about his chances though and has vowed to fight for his place and put the pressure on the aforementioned duo.

“Wherever you go you have to fight for a place and earn your chance so I’m ready to fight, ready to put the pressure on,” he told the club’s official website.

“Right now there are two right-backs but I came to play and earn some time to play but it’ll be the gaffer who will decide. I know the way he plays and I’ll try to fit in and do my best.”

It seems likely that Celtic fans will not have to wait long to see Gamboa in the first team picture.

The right back has been a problematic one for some time and Saidy Janko’s recent performance against Hapoel Be’er Sheva was not an inspiring one to say the least.

Indeed, it is likely that display was what has convinced Brendan Rodgers into the move for Gamboa and it remains to be seen how long it is before the Celtic boss decides to give the full back his chance in the first team.
