Well, you certainly can’t fault Rangers star Kemar Roofe’s ambition.
Roofe, a £4 million signing by Rangers last summer [Daily Mail], scored arguably the best goal in the Europa League this season with a stunning lob from the halfway line against Standard Liege.
But things didn’t go quite as planned when the former Leeds United hitman tried the same in the Gers’ visit to St Johnstone on Wednesday night.
Not only did Roofe fail to beat goalkeeper Zander Clark from a similar distance on 94 minutes, but the hosts’ goalkeeper punted the ball upfield and Saints ultimately won a penalty, which was converted by Liam Craig who snatched a shock point.
And suffice to say some Rangers fans are arguing on Twitter that the English attacker could and probably should have kept possession rather than go for the headlines.
The good news is that Steven Gerrard’s side are still undefeated in the Premiership this season and therefore the light Blues boss won’t be as livid as he might’ve been had Roofe’s ambitious effort lead to his team losing.
But it was still a silly piece of game management by Roofe and it’s certainly something Gerrard will point out.
