Gareth Southgate will not change his mind about selecting Jonjo Shelvey for England and Newcastle United fans are not impressed.

England manager Gareth Southgate with assistant Steve Holland during the UEFA European Under-17 Championship at Bescot Stadium on May 7, 2018 in Walsall, England.

Gareth Southgate will not change his mind about selecting Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey, reports the Telegraph, ahead of submitting a 35-man provisional squad for the 2018 World Cup.

There have been many calls for the England manager to bring Shelvey back into the fold for the tournament in Russia with the nation short of options in central midfield.

Jonjo Shelvey of Newcastle United applauds the fans after the Premier League match between Watford and Newcastle United at Vicarage Road on May 5, 2018 in Watford, England.

Liverpool’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will not be going after suffering a knee injury and there are doubts about the fitness of his Reds teammate Adam Lallana as well.

Yet despite that Southgate will not be calling up Shelvey after also snubbing the Magpies star for international friendlies with Netherlands and Italy back in March.

Neither the FA or Fifa are obliged to publish the 35 names that are submitted for the provisional squad before it is whittled down to the final 23 that will travel to the competition.

Newcastle fans, who watched Shelvey give a superb display against Tottenham Hotspur in a 1-0 Premier League defeat on Wednesday (May 9), are not impressed with Southgate’s decision.
