Gary Lineker has taken to Twitter to challenge Michael Oliver, after he decided to perform a U-turn on his decision to award Aston Villa a late penalty against Brighton.
The Villans thought they had an opportunity to equalise in the 95th minute after Solly March appeared to clip Trezeguet, leading to Oliver pointing to the spot.
However, after going over to check the VAR monitor, the referee decided to change his mind, as replays showed the Brighton match-winner actually got a slither of the ball.
Having said that, March got more of Trezeguet than he did of the ball – in this day and age, we’ve definitely seen those given as penalties.
After witnessing the 95th minute incident, Lineker tweeted the following.
It’s clear that the BBC pundit is against Oliver’s decision, and he has a point in challenging the controversial VAR call.
While Villa didn’t get anything out of the game, they certainly deserved at least a point from their meeting with the Seagulls.
Dean Smith’s men had 15 shots to Brighton’s seven, while also having 55.3% of the possession according to WhoScored.
The Midlands-based outfit also had 12 corners to Brighton’s three – they were truly unfortunate to leave Villa Park empty-handed earlier today.
