Shaka Hislop expressed his surprise at Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal wanting to sign forward Kai Havertz from Chelsea during the 2023 summer transfer window.
The former Premier League goalkeeper admitted that when he heard the rumour he was ‘surprised’ and he is ‘not sure’ where he would fit in at Arsenal.
Added to that, he thinks that Kai Havertz has ‘done nothing’ during his time at Chelsea and he finds all of this ‘really weird’, as he told ESPN.

With new manager Mauricio Pochettino in the dugout, he will want to bring in new faces in order to fix the issues at Stamford Bridge.
But because of the stupid amount of senior players Chelsea have got on their books, they have to get rid before they can add and it seems as though Havertz falls into that box.
Arsenal are probably helping their London rivals out by expressing interest in one of their struggling stars, as Hilsop shared his thoughts on the rumour.
“I am (surprised to hear it),” said Hislop. “I am just not sure where Kai Havertz fits in this Arsenal team.
“He has done nothing in three years at Chelsea to suggest that he’s going to be worth that kind of money and rediscover the form we saw at Leverkusen.
“Then you look at Arsenal’s line-up. I am not sure who he takes the place of. Or is he coming in as a squad player? It just doesn’t make an awful lot of sense to me, at all.
“The only thing that is in Kai Havertz’s favour here is Timo Werner oddly and his struggles at Chelsea, then he goes back to Germany and finds form. If you are a purchasing club and you are willing to spend north of £70 million, that’s a really weird stance to take. Well, Timo Werner rediscovered his form once he left Stamford Bridge, so we think the same of Kai Havertz. Nothing about this makes sense – credit to Arteta, he is seeing something I haven’t.”
Chelsea fans will be happy to sell Havertz
After scoring seven Premier League goals this season, Chelsea fans are just happy to, as quickly as possible, clear out their squad in order to move forward again.
Havertz, who has struggled since scoring the winning goal in the Champions League final in 2021, is one of those players Chelsea fans want out and they would be happy if he is sold.
Is that a good look for Arsenal fans? Perhaps not, but Arteta’s judgment has to be trusted here.
