Tim Sherwood has praised Antonio Conte for going seven Premier League games unbeaten as Tottenham manager, as he told Premier League Productions.
Spurs recorded a 1-1 draw against ten-man Southampton on Tuesday afternoon and Sherwood thinks Conte was ‘not looking for excuses’ following that draw.
The Saints were leading 1-0 when they were reduced to ten men when Mohammed Salisu was punished for a foul on Heung-Min Son inside the penalty area – Harry Kane converted.
But during the second period, Spurs didn’t do enough to walk away from St Mary’s with all three points.
After the game, Sherwood shared what Spurs did wrong during the game and he also lauded Conte for the start he has made since replacing Nuno Espirito Santo.
“He’s not looking for excuses, is he?!” said Sherwood. “He knows that his team have dropped points. But he is still unbeaten. Seven games now and credit to him.
“They are moving in the right direction. It’s just today with ten men, I felt they lacked the creativity to break down Southampton.
“It’s not just about moving the ball quicker. It’s about players dropping the shoulder, going past someone and risking the ball. I thought they were a little safe in the midfield areas.”
Spurs want to secure Champions League football this term and they are now five points behind fourth-placed Arsenal.
But Conte’s side have played two games extra than their north London rivals, who saw their game against Wolves postponed today because of COVID issues.
But a very big January awaits Spurs because they have their EFL Cup games against Chelsea, as well as travelling to Stamford Bridge to take on Thomas Tuchel’s men in the Premier League.
Amongst that all, they also have a crucial showdown against Arsenal, which if things go wrong, could prove to be problematic in their European chase.
