Aston Villa fans have reacted to Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount labelling Jack Grealish a ‘world-class’ player [The Times] ahead of England’s international friendly against the Republic of Ireland tonight.
In recent months, a lot has been made about the lack of game time Grealish has been given by Southgate, with the former Villa centre-back preferring Chelsea’s thriving youth product.
And whilst Southgate’s most recent comments on Grealish have left a number of the Villa supporters perplexed and shocked [read here], they have praised Mount for his own comments.
A selection of Villa supporters feel that both Mount and Grealish can play together for England, but a certain Southgate stands in their way.
At club level, Grealish plays and has thrived, alongside Ross Barkley. If they can do the business in the Premier League then there is no reason why Mount-Grealish cannot work on the international stage.
Whilst tonight’s clash against the ROI is a friendly, it will be interesting to see if Southagte starts the boyhood Villa fan for England’s more competitive games coming up.
That’s where the real frustration and anger has come from the England supporters because they feel they don’t have that spark and cutting edge in the final third and it’s something he can provide in abundance.
