Arsenal fans on Twitter have provided a mixed reaction to the fee they could potentially sell Sokratis for amid rumours that he is heading to Serie A.

The Mirror have claimed that Arsenal may receive £3.5 million for Sokratis’s services, with Napoli keen on bringing the 32-year-old to the club.

The Gunners paid £18 million for the Greek defender back in 2018 [Guardian], and are no doubt heading for a loss in his sale if he does leave.

But, on the other hand, given his age and the fact that he has less than 12 months left on his current contract, then it could also be seen as good business for a player in that position.

Added with that, it also needs to be remembered that he hasn’t been part of Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans, so it’s not like the club are losing such a key player.

Plus, the North London club have purchased Gabriel from Lille, so rather than looking at the fee, the fact that Sokratis could be pushed off the wage bill is even better news.

Arsenal’s record transfer deals

  1. Nicolas Pepe

    £72 million

  2. Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

    £56 million

  3. Alexandre Lacazette

    £52 million

  4. Thomas Partey

    45 million

  5. Mesut Ozil

    £42 million

Either way, big changes are going on at Arsenal and there is an air of excitement around the place heading into the new season.

Winning the FA Cup, and most recently, the Community Shield has helped change the mood around the club, which was flat and as low as it has ever been when Arteta first walked through the doors back in December.
