Tottenham Hotspur and Wolverhampton Wanderers have missed out on Gennaro Gattuso to Fiorentina.

Gattuso, who was sacked by Napoli this week, had been linked with Tottenham and Wolves.

Rai Sport journalist Ciro Venerato said this month, as quoted on CalcioNapoli24, that Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy has been impressed by Gattuso and is interested in his services, as covered by HITC Sport.

Tuttomercatoweb reported in March that Wolves are considering hiring the 43-year-old former Rangers and AC Milan defensive midfielder.

La Repubblica reported earlier today that Lazio owner Claudio Lotito has booked Gattuso as a potential replacement for Simone Inzaghi, who is out of contract at the Serie A club.

However, Fiorentina have announced today that they have appointed Gattuso as their new head coach.

The Premier League is the most watched and the richest domestic league in the world.

Gattuso would have known that managing Tottenham or Wolves would raise his profile worldwide, and that he would have also earned more in England.

However, despite reported interest from Wolves and Spurs, Gattuso has decided to take charge of Fiorentina.

Fiorentina finished as low as 13th in the Serie A table this season, and it will be interesting to see the Italian club’s progress in 2021-22 under Gattuso.

The Italian will be well known to Spurs fans from the time when he was a player.

Back in February 2011, the former defensive midfielder clashed with Joe Jordan in the Champions League, with then Spurs manager Harry Redknapp describing his actions as “crazy”, as quoted in The Guardian at the time.
