Liverpool fans have taken to Twitter to react after the Under-18 side beat Sunderland 3-0 earlier today, and they’ve praised Stefan Bajcetic.
What’s the story?
Well, Marc Bridge-Wilkinson’s side sealed a comprehensive win on Merseyside earlier today, in which Bajcetic stood out.
The 16-year-old played a huge role in Oakley Cannonier’s opener in the 31st minute, pinging a wonderful pass to Luke Chambers who got the assist.
It was reminiscent of Virgil van Dijk’s trademark diagonals, something which one fan below actually mentioned after the 3-0 win.
Another supporter said Bajcetic reminded them of Ki-Jana Hoever, who left for Wolves in September 2020, due to his ability on the ball.
It was the 16-year-old’s sixth U18 Premier League appearance of the season, and he certainly didn’t let himself or his teammates down.
Bajcetic seems to be developing superbly at Anfield, following his £224,000 move from Celta Vigo in December 2020.

Just by watching the 13-second clip below of Bajcetic’s pass from earlier today, it’s hard not to see similarities to Van Dijk, or even Joël Matip.
The way the Spaniard steps out from the back oozes calmness, and the fact he feels brave enough to do so at 16 speaks volumes.
The Athletic believe Bajcetic impressed Liverpool scouts when he was first watched in 2019 – if he was playing like this at the time, it’s easy to see why.
To make things even better, the Reds beat Manchester United to his signature, according to The Athletic.
If Bajcetic goes on to become a superstar, you can be sure the Anfield faithful will rub that in their rivals’ faces for many years.
