Alan Shearer and Ian Wright were critical of Lukasz Fabianski and West Ham United for their performance after they were beaten 5-1 by Newcastle United in the Premier League on Wednesday night at the London Stadium.

It was a mistake-ridden performance from David Moyes’ men, with Ian Wright calling one moment from goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski as ‘crazy’.

The former Arsenal striker wasn’t even making reference to the fourth goal Fabianski conceded, but the third, which was straight after the half-time break.

The Hammers, after going 2-0 down inside 20 minutes, pulled a goal back through Kurt Zouma, before well and truly shooting themselves in the foot at the start of the second half.

Before Fabianski could rush off his line and gift Newcastle with a fourth goal, he played a ball out to Nayef Aguerd, who was caught in possession, and Callum Wilson duly scored his second goal of the game.

It was a night to well and truly forget for the relegation-threatened side, with Ian Wright and Alan Shearer critical of the defensive disasterclass from the Hammers, as they told Premier League Productions (05/04/23 at 10:15 pm).

“I mean tonight, defensively, West Ham were embarrassing,” said Shearer.

Wright then responded: “The keeper giving him the ball there (for Newcastle’s third goal), it’s just crazy.”

Shearer added: “What did we say before the game? If you are going to have that amount of confidence by saying ‘We are going to play out’, then you have to do it right because of the way Newcastle press.

“Then, another huge error from the goalkeeper. Some of the goals they conceded West Ham were comical and shambolic.”

RIVALS WATCHING WITH GLEE

That’s a game West Ham United’s relegation rivals will be watching with pure glee because it was a disaster of the highest order.

Four Premier League teams are on 27 points, with West Ham out of the drop zone on goal difference only and they know that dropped points at Fulham on Saturday could become a real issue.

There is serious pressure on Moyes in the dugout, and given that 13 managers have been sacked this season, don’t be surprised if he is number 14 because fans are very annoyed.
