Derek McInnes has decided to remain at Aberdeen despite Ibrox club Rangers looking to approach the Dons boss.

Aberdeen chairman Stewart Milne was quoted on the Dons’ official website on Thursday evening as saying that 46-year-old boss McInnes had decided to remain at Pittodrie, despite McInnes being flattered to be linked with a move to Ibrox.

However, Rangers must look elsewhere in their search for a new manager, with interim boss Graeme Murty now favourite to take over after four wins in his six games in charge in what is a second spell as caretaker.
Outspoken BT Sport pundit Craigan claimed on Twitter that McInnes cannot have been Rangers’ top target as it has taken almost six weeks for the Gers to launch a move to land the former Bristol City manager.
Murty must now dust his side down and prepare the Gers squad for Saturday’s home match against Ross County at Ibrox, with the Light Blues looking to finally secure three consecutive wins after Murty orchestrated a double triumph over Aberdeen last week.
The former Reading defender, who was Under-20’s manager before taking over the first-team role for the second time has guided the Gers to second in the division, and could close the gap between themselves and Celtic with three points.
