Glasgow Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas has left Ibrox on loan, and the Gers will be monitoring his progress closely.

Adrian Fein of Germany (L) and Jamie Barjonas of Scotland fight for the ball during the Under 19 Euro Qualifier between Germany and Scotland on March 21, 2018 in Lippstadt, Germany.

Rangers academy director Craig Mulholland has told the club’s official website that the Gers would be interested in striking up something of a partnership with Bury should Ibrox youngster Jamie Barjonas enjoy a successful loan spell with the League Two side.

Barjonas has become the latest Light Blues prospect to have left the Scottish Premiership side this summer, with the 19-year-old making the switch to Gigg Lane until January.

And Mulholland has hinted that the club will be monitoring his progress closely as they are hoping to potentially make Barjonas the first of many to make that move in the coming windows.

“We are delighted that Jamie has joined Bury on loan as the EFL will provide a different stimulus for him, achieving first-team minutes to better equip him to come back and compete for a place in the Rangers team,” he told Rangers’ official website.

“Mark Allen and the manager, Steven Gerrard, have really good contacts at Bury and if it is successful for Jamie then we could build a relationship which may see other Academy players move there in the future.”

It will certainly be advantageous for Rangers to find a club that they can send their young players to to get first-team football under their belt. And Bury would surely welcome the chance to strike up some sort of relationship given the many exciting prospects trying to break into the senior side at Ibrox.

And if nothing else, the move could present Barjonas with a fantastic opportunity. Rangers will obviously be watching the teenager’s progress closely anyway, but perhaps the door being left open for a partnership between the two will tempt the club to watch the midfielder even closer.

It is a great chance for Barjonas to showcase his potential at senior level, and if he thrives with Ryan Lowe’s side, then perhaps he will be followed by several more Gers youngsters in the future.
