Craig Levein was angry with the treatment of Glasgow Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos as the Ibrox side clinched a victory on Sunday.

In comments reported by Sky Sports, Craig Levein has suggested that Alfredo Morelos was lucky to avoid punishment during Rangers’ win over Hearts, and disclosed what referee Bobby Madden said about the Gers striker to one of his players.

Steven Gerrard’s men now top the Scottish Premiership after they came from behind to claim a 2-1 win. Connor Goldson and Morelos bagged the two goals for the visitors.

But it was not only a goal that Morelos contributed during the game. The Colombian was involved in a very intriguing contest with Christophe Berra throughout the afternoon that involved a number of fouls being given.

Morelos, of course, took home the bragging rights. But Levein was stunned with how much he felt the Rangers striker got away with during the game, and what the official apparently said to explain a particular decision.

“How Morelos stays on the park and gets through that without a booking I’ll never know. Some of the decisions today were abysmal,” he said, as reported by Sky Sports. “Morelos had loads of fouls where he doesn’t even watch the ball. He just jumps into the centre-backs.

“There was one where he has smashed Christophe and Bobby said to one of our players: ‘It’s alright, that’s just Morelos – he’s a bit silly sometimes’. Well maybe I’ll tell our players to be silly because you don’t get booked for it!”

In fairness to Morelos, there was arguably one foul in the corner that should have resulted in the striker receiving a yellow card. But his battle with Berra saw both men use their physicality to try and gain an advantage, and it became a fascinating sub-plot.

Morelos certainly crosses the line. But given everything else he brings to Gerrard’s side – the winner against Hearts was his 17th goal of the campaign in all competitions – it is unlikely that the Rangers boss will be asking the youngster to adapt his game too much anytime soon.
