The Celtic defender has been linked with a move away from Parkhead this summer.
Celtic stopper Craig Gordon spoke exclusively to the Daily Record about his teammate Dedryck Boyata’s current situation at Parkhead, and insisted that all of the Hoops squad are firmly behind the troubled Belgian.
Brendan Rodgers left the 27-year-old out of his squad for Celtic’s Europa League qualifying tie against Suduva tonight, suggesting that he is not ready to play, neither mentally nor physically.
Boyata has been heavily linked with an exit from Parkhead this summer, but as things stand, he remains a Celtic player.
Gordon spoke exclusively to the Daily Record, and shared how he and the rest of the Hoops squad have spoken personally to the centre-back about his current situation, and insisted that they are all still behind him:
“He’s spoken to the boys individually, I’ve spoken with him myself one on one, and it’s a difficult situation for him. Things like this always are, knowing how to handle it. It’s difficult too when it’s all played out in public. As a footballer and a person everyone has respect for him and we hope that whatever happens, he gets back fit and back playing football.”
There is still eight days remaining until the transfer window slams shut in Scotland, so anything can still happen, but Celtic have made it clear that they will not be bullied into selling the Belgian, having already knocked back a £9 million bid from Fulham for his services, according to a report from the London Evening Standard.
