Celtic goalkeeper Craig Gordon has told the Daily Record that he thinks there will be clubs in England and Europe looking to sign winger James Forrest in 2019.

The Bhoys have seen a number of players impress, but nobody is in better form than winger Forrest right now, who is enjoying a sensational run of late.

Forrest, 27, has hit seven goals in his last eight games for Celtic as well as smashing five goals in two games for Scotland over the international break, continuing to star out wide.

The right winger had injury problems earlier in his career and looked set to leave Celtic in 2016 under Ronny Deila, before Rodgers kept him at Parkhead.

Now a key part of the Celtic side, Forrest is a mainstay of Rodgers’ setup, and it would be little surprise to see clubs launch bids to sign him in the January transfer window.

Now, goalkeeper Gordon has predicted that there will be interest from clubs in England and around Europe, having been ‘outstanding’ this season on a consistent basis, adding that Celtic are lucky to have him.

“If James continues to score as many goals as he’s doing now there will be admiring glances,” said Gordon. “He’s playing consistently at a certain level which means teams will be looking. Whether it’s down south or in Europe, there aren’t too many players operating at that level or scoring the amount of goals he is. Scouts will be looking at stats and taking notice of what he’s giving to teams right now. We’re lucky to have him and hopefully he continues the form he’s in.”

“He’s been outstanding for Celtic and Scotland. He just keeps improving. And he’s now one of our ‘go-to’ men in the team. If James isn’t scoring himself, he’s getting assists. It’s an incredible run he’s on and a great feeling as a team-mate knowing when he gets the ball something’s going to happen,” he added.

Celtic lost one key player back in August as Moussa Dembele left for Lyon, and won’t want to see Forrest leave as well, but heading away to a Premier League club or major European club – like Dembele did – may seem appealing, with ensuring that he stays potentially a top priority for Celtic in January.
